Today I visited Goodwood Prison to see how remand detainees are processed when they arrive. What I found was shocking. Fingerprints are still checked manually, by eye, scanners don’t pick up half the contraband, the computers are decades out of date, and there’s no proper K9 backup where it’s needed most - upon arrival of hundreds of remand detainees at the centre.
