Did you know Burlington County was where New Jersey's Farmland Preservation Program first took root? The first five farms to enter preservation were in Chesterfield Township and prevented a 1,100-unit housing development from being built on the land. Four decades later more than 250,000 acres of farmland has been protected across New Jersey. Burlington County remains the state leader with more than 67,000 total acres of farmland saved.
