O santoor é um instrumento musical de cordas percussivas com raízes profundas na história da humanidade. Sua origem remonta a mais de 3.500 anos, nas antigas civilizações da Mesopotâmia e da Pérsia (atual Irã). Acredita-se que o nome “santoor” derive do termo persa "santur", que significa “cem cordas”. Tradicionalmente, ele é construído em forma trapezoidal e é tocado com dois pequenos martelos de madeira curvos chamados mezrab, que são usados para percutir as cordas e produzir um som melodioso
