A volunteer pilot known for helping transport rescue animals to shelters died in a plane crash in the Catskill Mountains in New York on Sunday while transporting three dogs to a no-kill shelter.

A volunteer pilot flying three rescue dogs to a care facility in upstate New York died along with one of the dogs after his plane crashed in the state's Catskill Mountains, according to officials.

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica -- The sole survivor of a plane crash near Costa Rica’s capital, in which five other people died, is in serious condition in a hospital, the local Red Cross said on Tuesday. The 31-year-old woman was one of six people on board the small aircraft when it crashed southeast of San Jose.
