Yankees announcer Michael Kay took issue with a comment Juan Soto made this week after the new Mets outfielder was left off of the All-Star Game roster. Speaking to reporters after the news broke, Soto said “it happens,” and it’s “a part of baseball.” He was then asked a follow up question about whether he wanted to play in the game.

After being taunted with a broom, Michael Kay dropped a hammer. Kay, the Yankees’ play-by-play voice on YES Network and a talk-show host on ESPN radio, reacted Sunday to being called out by Jamie Campbell of Rogers Sportsnet in Toronto after the Blue Jays swept a four-game series from the spiraling Yankees to overtake first place in the AL East.
Between alienating Mets fans, sparring with fellow broadcasters, and declaring the first-place Blue Jays aren’t actually a first-place team, Michael Kay is currently on a full-blown Linsanity-esque heater.
Michael Kay has another message for Yankees fans. For those calling for a “rebuild” or “reload” in the wake of their recent six-game slide that ended with Sunday’s 6-4 win over the Mets, he says, Slow your roll.
After the Blue Jays completed their four-game sweep of the Yankees on Thursday, Campbell threw some shade during the postgame show toward Kay — while not referencing the play-by-play announcer by name, but referring to him as a “certain Yankee broadcaster” — after a prior comment about how Toronto doesn’t reflect a first-place team.
