AUSTIN, Texas – No. 5 LSU (25-2, 10-2 SEC) battled in a defensive struggle against No. 3 Texas (26-2, 12-1 SEC) on Sunday afternoon, but the Tigers came up just short, losing 65-58 in a tightly contested game in a soldout Moody Center.

LSU women's basketball's game against Texas on Sunday was seen as a heavyweight fight, but it was the Longhorns who battled back for the win.

LSU was able to load the bases in the bottom of the first inning with zero outs, but the Tigers were unable to score any runs. Shores then started rolling on the mound, and he shut Purdue Fort Wayne down through the next few innings.

Chase Shores was supposed to be that third starter for the Tigers. But Tommy John surgery the year prior sidelined the redshirt sophomore for all of 2024. LSU coach Jay Johnson has likened his absence to if quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was unavailable for the football team.

Second-ranked LSU blasted three home runs Saturday, and right-hander Anthony Eyanson allowed just one run in 5.0 innings, as the Tigers defeated Purdue Fort Wayne, 10-1, in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.
