Several social media posts and reports by Indian news outlets claim that the lawyer defending ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) priest Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari was hacked to death in Bangladesh during recent violence in Chattogram.

On December 2, Bangladeshi Hindus in Canada organized a protest over the arrest of ISKCON priest Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh. The arrest was made on charges of sedition after Das allegedly raised a flag on a stand displaying Bangladesh’s national flag.

After the formation of the interim government headed by Muhammad Yunus, minorities in Bangladesh, especially Hindus, have come under severe attack by Islamist extremists in the country.

A Bangladesh court will hear Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das's bail plea on December 3. Das was arrested on November 27 for sedition related to hoisting a saffron flag above the national flag. His arrest incited protests and led to the freezing of accounts linked to 17 ISKCON members,

Another Hindu priest and ISKCON member, Shyam Das Prabhu, has been arrested in Chattogram, Bangladesh, just days after the detention of spiritual leader Chinmoy Krishna Das on sedition charges. India has urged Bangladesh to ensure the protection of its minorities and fair judicial processes.

Chinmoy Krishna Das, a Hindu priest and minority rights advocate in Bangladesh, was arrested and denied bail on sedition charges. India's ministry of external affairs expressed concern, noting attacks on minorities protesting Das's arrest.

A Chattogram court official said that the date for the hearing had already been set but the announcement was delayed due to a boycott and work abstention by lawyers on Wednesday and Thursday.

New Delhi expressed concern over the monk's arrest and denial of bail and asked Bangladesh to ensure the safety of Hindus and other minorities. India on Friday said the interim government in Bangladesh must live up to its responsibility of protecting all minorities as it expressed serious concern over the "surge" of extremist rhetoric and increasing incidents of violence against Hindus as well as attacks on temples.
