Mexico is willing to raise tariffs on Chinese goods and find ways to buy more from the US in a bid to avoid duties threatened by President Donald Trump, according to people familiar with the matter.

Trump has given conflicting signals about his plans, appearing to suggest as recently as Wednesday that the Canada and Mexico tariffs might be delayed again until early April.

President Donald Trump says his 25 percent tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico, and additional 10 percent tariff on Chinese imports will go into effect as scheduled on March 4th, unless imports of drugs including fentanyl are stopped or “seriously limited.”
