The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for four districts in Kerala - Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur - forecasting extremely heavy rains on Monday, December 2. The red alert, indicating over 20 cm of rain in 24 hours, comes after the IMD upgraded its initial “orange” alert for Kottayam and Pathanamthitta to red.

Kerala is expected to experience significant rainfall due to cyclone Fengal, with red alerts issued for five northern districts. The weather system, currently a strong low-pressure area, is likely to intensify.

The weather department has also issued an orange alert for Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur districts.

Today, an alert has been raised for heavy rainfall in north Kerala, with holiday declarations in several districts. Residents are urged to stay vigilant as a low-pressure area may pose flooding risks.
