Matthew Tkachuk 'feeling better' after 4 Nations Face-Off injury, wants redemption
Florida Panthers star Matthew Tkachuk appeared on "The Tonight Show" and talked about playing alongside his brother and the USA's chances in 2026.
Matthew and Brady Tkachuk and J.T. Miller discussed in a group chat the three fights they ended up getting into in the first nine seconds of Team USA’s win over Canada during the teams’ first matchup in the 4 Nations Face-Off.
It would be impossible to retell the history of the 4 Nations Face-Off without mentioning the notorious Team USA group text which ultimately led to the trio of fights at the start of the matchup between the United States and Canada.
U.S. forward Auston Matthews, former hockey player Mike Eruzione, former hockey player Wayne Gretzky and Canada forward Sidney Crosby during the 4 Nations Face-Off. Despite the loss to Canada in the final, Tkachuk called the tournament a memorable experience, especially since he got to play alongside his brother, Matthew.
It appears that the feeling was mutual between Matthew Tkachuk and Brandon Hagel. Immediately following puck drop on Saturday’s 4 Nations Face-Off match between USA and Canada, won 3-1 by the Americans, Tkachuk and Hagel threw their gloves to the ground and sparred with each other.

Brady Tkachuk revealed that he and some of his Team USA teammates watched the famous movie 'Miracle' prior to their first game against Team Canada. Kurt Russell, of all people, deserves some of the credit for America becoming more interested and engaged in the sport of hockey.
Tkachuk, playing on a line with his brother Matthew and Auston Matthews, crashed the net with less than 4 minutes to go. He was able to get his stick on a pass from Matthews and the puck eluded Canada goalie Jordan Binnington. That sent the pro-U.S. crowd into a frenzy.
Tkachuk confirmed he sustained the injury playing for the United States at the 4 Nations Face-Off. He skated on his own ahead of practice Tuesday, took one line rush with Claude Giroux and Tim Stutzle and then left practice, although he said that was part of the plan.
