The entire football community wanted to pay tribute to Diogo Jota, a player who had left his mark at Liverpool and with the Portuguese national team. The emotion even reached a Women’s EURO in which Spain and Portugal were making their debuts, and where a heartfelt tribute was held.
That proved to be premature, as Putellas returned to the pitch in April 2023 and was back in the Spain squad for that summer’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. She played seven times and provided an assist, but had not built up enough rhythm to show her best form.
