Modesto police have identified the suspect shot by an officer or officers Monday afternoon near Vintage Faire Mall and said he died from his wounds. The shooting at Max Muscle Sports Nutrition, 3250 Dale Road, occurred about 1 p.m. The man shot was 40-year-old Jimmy Lee Rupe of Modesto.

Modesto store owner urged suspect to surrender before fatal shooting by police, he says

Sherwood told The Modesto Bee that Rupe had been a frequent customer before his fateful visit around 1 p.m. March 17. The owner said two police officers arrived and said they had received a tip that Rupe was there.
