General Motors is set to become the first U.S. automaker with a Formula 1 team when a Cadillac-branded team joins the racing series in 2026, F1 announced Monday, ending a years-long battle between the series and former driver Michael Andretti, who initially proposed a GM expansion.

Formula 1 and General Motors have reached an agreement for the automaker to join the world’s most prestigious racing championship starting in 2026. The new outfit will likely be branded Cadillac and will be the competition’s 11th team.

Formula One announced Monday that “an agreement in principle” has been reached “with General Motors to support bringing GM/Cadillac” to the grid as the sport’s 11th team in 2026.
