Cynthia Erivo‘s next role is the exact opposite of wicked. As announced Tuesday (Feb. 18), the singer/actress is locked in to star as the titular role in Jesus Christ Superstar, running three nights in a row at the Hollywood Bowl this August.

Cynthia Erivo will be walking on water as Jesus Christ this summer. The actress took to Instagram on Tuesday (Feb. 18), resharing a post by Broadway World, revealing her brand new role in Jesus Christ Superstar premiering at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

"Wicked" star Cynthia Erivo will be Jesus Christ in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Jesus Christ Superstar" in August at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

Performances for “Jesus Christ Superstar” at the Hollywood Bowl will begin on Aug. 1 and run through Aug. 3. More casting will be announced at a later date. Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo is serving as director and choreographer for the show, while Tony winner Stephen Oremus is set to serve as musical director and conductor.

Wicked’s Cynthia Erivo will play the title role of Jesus Christ Superstar at a Hollywood Bowl presentation of the classic Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical this summer. Performances of Jesus Christ Superstar will start on August 1 and run through August 3.
