The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for rain for Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam and Thiruvarur districts in Tamil Nadu and Karaikal in Puducherry.

Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is forecast over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh between November 27 and 29. Strong winds, ranging between 45-55 km/h with gusts up to 65 km/h, are likely along the affected coasts. Additionally, rough seas may lead to flooding in low-lying areas and disrupt marine activities.

The deep depression is set to bring significant rainfall to coastal districts like Nagai, Karaikal, Thanjavur, Mayiladuthurai, and Ramanathapuram. These areas are likely to bear the brunt of the weather system. The storm’s proximity is expected to bring intense rainfall to the Delta region, which could result in localized flooding and waterlogging.

IMD has issued a red alert for Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur and Mayiladuthurai districts and the Karaikal area on November 26, with the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall in many places across these four districts. On November 27, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore and the Karaikal area have been issued a red alert.

Deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm and bring heavy to very heavy rains in the state.

Due to the Fengal cyclone forming in the Bay of Bengal, heavy rain is expected in Tamil Nadu's coastal districts. The low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression. It is expected to move west-northwest and strengthen into a cyclone tomorrow.
