Cyclone Fengal's fury has brought widespread destruction in several parts of Tamil Nadu. Seven people feared trapped after a mudslide in Tiruvannamalai amid heavy rain, 30 NDRF personnel engaged in rescue operation using hydraulic lifts.

Tiruvannamalai, India - 02, 2024 Seven people were feared to be trapped in Annamalaiyar Hill in the Tiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu due to a landslide triggered by the torrential rains following Cyclone Fengal.

According to the latest update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Fengal has weakened into a deep depression. It is likely to move westwards very slowly and weaken gradually into a depression over north Tamil Nadu during the next few hours.

Cyclone Fengal, which made landfall along the Puducherry-Tamil Nadu coast on November 30, weakened into a deep depression on Sunday, but heavy rainfall under its influence caused flooding in several parts of Puducherry and parts of Tamil Nadu.

The CM confirmed that four people lost their lives due to the cyclone and rains, and their families would each receive a solatium of Rs 5 lakh.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning of significant rainfall in Kerala due to cyclone Fengal. Heavy rain is expected in northern and central parts of the state on Tuesday. Red alerts are issued for five northern districts.
