Sen. Chris Van Hollen traveled to El Salvador last week, where he met with Abrego Garcia after he said his attempts were repeatedly turned down by the Salvadoran government.

Van Hollen, along with many others, has been highly critical of the Trump administration's deportation of Abrego Garcia. The Democratic senator traveled to El Salvador, where the El Salvadoran national was deported, last week to meet directly with Abrego Garcia, who previously resided in Maryland with his wife and children.

The government claims he’s a member of the MS-13 gang, which his wife and attorney deny, and deported him to El Salvador despite a judge’s 2019 order barring him from being sent there.
