The Demokraatit party, which won a surprise victory, has pushed back against Trump's rhetoric, saying it is for Greenlanders to decide their future.

President Trump has expressed a desire to “get” Greenland, but the victorious party is in no rush to change the status quo.

The leader of the winning party said he hoped the election would send a clear message to Trump that Greenland was “not for sale” and Greenlanders “don’t want to be Americans.”
