The Toronto Blue Jays wasted an eight-run lead, then outlasted the Yankees 11-9 as George Springer scored the go-ahead run on Devin Williams’ eighth-inning wild pitch to tie New York for the AL East lead.

For the first time since April 13, the Yankees are no longer in sole possession of first place in the division, now tied with the Blue Jays after dropping a third straight game to them, this one a crushing 11-9 loss at Rogers Centre. The game seemed all but over after the first inning, when Will Warren dug them a 7-0 hole that soon became 8-0.

After nine rounds of Wednesday night’s heavyweight fight, the judges have scored the bout 11-9 for… the Toronto Blue Jays. This is what AL East baseball is supposed to look like, haymakers flying back and forth in a game that had absolutely everything.
