San Diego State had nearly four dozen players exit to or enter from the portal coming into the 2024 season. A similar number could be expected for 2025. San Diego State coach Sean Lewis said by the end of this week he will speak with each player in the Aztecs’ program who still has eligibility remaining.

The December transfer portal will open on Dec. 9, and players are already stating their intentions to enter and leave their current school. New Mexico State is no stranger to the portal, having gained and lost dozens of players from its 2023 team that finished 10-5 and reached the Conference USA Championship Game.

San Diego State has quickly turned the page on a disappointing 2024 football season, with the focus shifting this week to player acquisition (and retention) for the 2025 season. The NCAA’s early signing period begins on Wednesday. Five days later, the NCAA transfer portal opens.
