Louisville's flood protection infrastructure keeps the Ohio River at bay, and has already pumped billions of gallons of stormwater out of the city.

The pumping station sends flood water outside of the levy and flood wall system. MSD currently has seven flood pumping stations in active service. MSD monitors the water levels of the Ohio River throughout the year, but the river typically floods between January and May.

According to MSD, the most recent projections show that the Ohio River will crest on February 21 at 29 feet on the upper gauge and 60.5 feet on the lower gauge. Normal pool on the upper gauge is 12 feet, and low stage on the lower gauge is 9 feet.
