As crews and community members continue to clean up the destruction caused by the recent historic ice storm in Northern Michigan, a lawmaker is seeking presidential attention. In a letter sent to Trump Wednesday,

Residents of a rural northern Michigan community were isolated by an ice storm, but banded together to help each other with cooking and cleaning up.

This is easily the worst ice storm in modern times — in the last 50 years — and you have to go back all the way to 1922 to find something even remotely close,” said Harold Dippman, meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Gaylord.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said she has communicated with President Donald Trump about the seriousness of the storm damage.

Schools across Northern Michigan are shutting their doors for the remainder of the week as communities grapple with the lingering impacts of this week’s devastating ice storms.

Depending on what happens with Wednesday's weather, Consumers Energy still hopes to restore power to most households in Otsego County by midnight on Friday, April 4. The county was hard hit by last weekend's ice storm and many residences still have no electricity.
