An MP has accused the Met Office of incompetence in a “clear underestimation” of the impact of Storm Bert, as communities continue a huge clean-up after torrential rain and widespread flooding.

While the Met Office said it was "committed to learning the lessons" the forecasting and meteorological body also pointed out that rainfall totals were in line with its predictions and warnings.

Weekend weather will see snow, rain and possible 70mph winds across large parts of the UK due to Storm Bert, the second named weather front of the season.

At least five people are reported dead following the storm. A body was found in search for 75-year-old dog walker Brian Perry in north Wales. A man in his 80s died when his car became submerged in Colne, Lancashire on Saturday.
