The federal government has closed its investigation into an E. coli outbreak tied to McDonald’s Quarter Pounder hamburgers after determining there is no longer a safety risk.

Federal health agencies closed their investigations into the bacterial outbreak that sickened 104 people and was linked to onions on the fast-food chain’s signature Quarter Pounders.

An investigation into an E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounders has officially been closed, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday.

The Centers for Disease Control cleared McDonald's after its lethal E. coli outbreak, which caused one death, 34 hospitalizations and 104 cases across 14 states.

The CDC and FDA have closed their investigations into an E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounder hamburgers after determining there is no longer a safety risk.

Both the CDC and FDA have said that the E. coli outbreak tied to slivered onions on Quarter Pounders no longer poses a risk to the public.

An E. coli outbreak that hit McDonald's Corp. is over, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.
