Up to 59 million from Texas to Michigan are under severe storm risk as heavy rains, flash flooding and strong tornadoes are forecast to hit the lower Ohio Valley and the mid-South.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday until 11 p.m. tonight. The watch covers 28 counties in Indiana, including Monroe County, due to severe weather throughout the night.

Forecasters issued some of their rarest and most extreme alerts on Wednesday as they warned a powerful storm system would stall over the central part of the country.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for southcentral Wisconsin on Wednesday. The warning includes Stoughton, Edgerton and Evansville and is active until 6:30 p.m. The weather service said a tornado was "radar indicated" and pea-sized hail is possible.
